Why Go To University, When The Learning Can Come To You?

Bring Learning to You

You might be hoping that your next move will be in securing a University place, or like many others, you might not be sure about what to do next.

If you are not quite sure about going to University, then a Higher National Diploma (HND) may be the best next step for you whilst you are still weighing up your options.

Instead of going to a University to learn, with a distance learning option from the Brighton School of Business and Management, the learning can come to you, so you can study wherever suits you and at the times you choose to.

In our previous blog, we already talked about a HND being a much more affordable option than going to University.

The HND is also suited to those who:

  • want to pursue a two-year higher education programme, which is recognised by employers around the world
  • did not gain the grades they wanted in their A-levels and are now rethinking their study options
  • are leaving school and want to start working immediately, whilst taking more time to think about whether a degree is a good option for them
  • want to extend their qualification to a full BA (Hons.) degree, once they have completed the HND

Gain skills and qualifications to improve your employment potential

Gaining a HND via distance learning is a very valuable qualification.  It is highly respected and accepted by all employers in the public and private sectors in the UK and internationally too.

For example, the HND in Business Management from the Brighton School of Business and Management would give you a very strong foundation of knowledge of management best practice; in all essential business and management areas, such as Finance, Accounting, Costing, Procurement, Marketing, Decision-making, Quality, Strategy etc.

A HND course focuses more on ‘the practical application’ of your subject content, as opposed to just learning about ‘the theory’.  HNDs are ‘outcome based’, which means that students have to demonstrate that they can achieve the stated learning outcomes in the programme by undertaking a range of practical and varied assessment tasks.

Since the HND courses are actually designed by employers, the core of what is taught is what is needed by those employers, in the workplace. That means that through study for an HND, you will gain practical insights into your business sector of choice.

The HND qualifications available for study online not only provide the academic challenge you need, but they also have modules and skill development built into them, that improves your employability.

You can upgrade to a full Degree later on if you wish to

While the practical skills gained from a Higher National Diploma can lead you directly to the workplace, many students also use the qualification as a stepping-stone to an Honours degree, having taken the time during the first two years of study to decide that the full degree from a University is an option for them.

The HND through the Brighton School of Business and Management takes approximately 18-24 months to complete, and to pass you would need to complete 16 modules, and an Assignment for each – better still – there are no examinations! You can gain your full BA (Hons.) through Brighton School of Business and Management, in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University, by extending your HND with a BA (Hons.) Top Up. This “top up” course takes approximately 9 – 11 months to complete and you will need to complete 6 modules plus 1 dissertation.

The full cost for the BA (Hons.) Top Up is £5250, which, compared to University fees, is a great alternative way of obtaining the full degree.

With the cost of a HND and BA Hons Top Up combined it will cost you less than £9,000 to graduate. If you attend University, it will cost you this each year so there are huge savings to be made.

With a distance learning HND, you can study when you want, where you want, and how you want. You don’t have to drive to campus but instead just commit to study between 6 and 10 hours weekly on average, which means that you can undertake your HND even with a full-time job.
