Interesting Events of the Month
The month of August has many interesting events and anniversaries taking place around the world.
Women’s Equality Day
Women’s Equality Day – 26th August – is primarily celebrated in the USA, as it commemorates the historic day when votes for women became part of the US Constitution.
However, in the same era women fought for the right to vote and for equality in the workplace and in many other areas of life.
This fight is still being fought in many parts of the world, and this day is one of many when the focus is on the need for equality for women.
Today, women’s equality has grown to mean much more than just sharing the right to the vote. Organisations such as Equality Now and Womankind Worldwide continue to work to provide women across the globe with equal opportunities to education and employment, pushing against suppression and violence towards women and against the discrimination and stereotyping which still occur in every society.

Joining and Using LinkedIn
Linkedin deserves a special mention for those studying for qualifications to support their career and professional development objectives.
LinkedIn is about work and professional development.
As a Member you can connect with other professionals in your field – or related sectors, and then people who those people know on a professional basis, and, through those, make contact with many other individuals, literally around the world.
LinkedIn is also designed to make it really easy for professionals with mutual acquaintances to get an introduction to each other, and that will put you into contact with many other individuals who can be of help to you in your studies and other aspects of your professional development.
You can then ask those individuals for advice on subjects you are studying, examples of situations, their experiences, their suggestions on sources of study information, and so on.
Most individuals who are serious about their professional development and gaining appropriate qualifications – are members of LinkedIn.
Currently, membership is approaching 250,000,000 – with high numbers of members in most of the developed countries and fast-rising numbers in the fast-developing countries in Africa, Asia, and South America.

Finally – Food for Thought
It’s Summertime …
Hair gets lighter. Skin gets darker. Water gets warmer. Drinks get colder. Music gets louder. Nights get longer.
Life gets better.
Even here in the UK … where our summers are a mix of early morning mists, rainy days, cloudy skies, occasional thunderstorms, and yes, if we’re lucky, one or two days each week when the sun shines all day long and temperatures rise to, for us, an amazing 29 or 30 degrees!
Working or studying, or as most of us need to now, doing both – it’s a time of the year to relax, at least a little, slow down just a little, take a look around, and be pleased that we’re here on Planet Earth!
Have a Good Summer!
