Unit Aim

The aim of this unit is to enhance students’ understanding of how Business Law is applied to the running of a company. Students will gain knowledge of Business Law and examine the impact of the law on business operations and decision-making.

Learning Outcome

1. Explain the basic nature of the legal system and illustrate the potential impact of the law on a business.

Assessment criteria

1.1 Explain different sources of law and laws that organisations must comply with

1.2 Explain the role of government in law- making and how statutory and common law is applied in the justice courts

1.3 Using specific examples illustrate how company, employment and contract law has a potential impact upon Business

Learning Outcome

2. Suggest appropriate legal solutions to business problems and recommend appropriate legal solutions based upon alternative legal advice provided

Assessment Criteria

2.1 Suggest appropriate legal solutions for a range of business problems e.g. termination of contract, rescue from insolvency and liquidation

2.2 Provide justifications for the use of appropriate legal solutions

2.3 Recommend legal solutions based upon a different country’s legal system and/or a different legal framework
