Unit 4: People Management

Description of unit

This unit introduces learners to the techniques concerned with the management of people within service industries, such as hospitality, travel, tourism, sports, leisure and recreation. The unit recognises the critical role that managing people has in the effectiveness and efficiency of an organisation.

The unit provides learners with the opportunity to examine the various practices, procedures and constraints that influence the management of people within a work environment.

Summary of learning outcomes

To achieve this unit a learner must:

1   Explain the processes and procedures involved in people management

2   Investigate working relationships within a services industry context

3   Evaluate methods of managing and developing human resources

4   Investigate industrial relations and legislation within the employment relationship.
