Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace BTEC Level 3

About the Course

The Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace is an internationally recognised health and safety qualification that is designed to enable supervisors, team leaders, and junior managers to develop an understanding of the significant health and safety risks in the workplace and how to identify and deal with them appropriately.

The award is also highly respected as a foundation qualification for Health & Safety Officers and Health & Safety Representatives, in public and private sector organisations throughout the world.

Progression

Accredited at Level 3 on the UK National Qualifications Framework, the Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace provides strong evidence of knowledge and understanding of a critical area of workplace practice, and an understanding of the need for policies and procedures that support workplace activity.

This award is accepted internationally by providers of higher level qualificaitons as evidence of commitment to professional development and the ability to study for a nationally accredited qualification.

Entry Requirements

Access is open to all, but ideally the student should:

  • be over 18 years of age
  • have at least one year of work experience
  • have a good standard of numeracy and literacy and general education

  • Reducing the Risks to Health & Safety in the Workplace

Outcomes

On completion of this unit a learner should:

1    Be able to identify risks and hazards in the workplace in order to comply with health and safety requirements, policies and working practices

2    Be able to carry out an evaluation of the risks and hazards in the workplace

3    Understand how to reduce the risks to health and safety in the workplace in accordance with instructions and workplace requirements.

Assessment

1 assignment.

Tutor Support

Following registration, you will be allocated a UK-based tutor, who will be available by telephone, fax, and email to discuss your coursework and give advice and guidance on studying and completing the assignment.

Course Materials: 30 hours

Assignments: 5 hours

Background Reading: 30 minutes average per week
