The HND Higher National Diploma in Business Management would give you a very strong foundation of knowledge of management best practice, in all the essential business and management areas, such as Finance, Accounting, Costing, Procurement, Marketing, Decision Making, Quality, Strategy, etc.
Study Time
It is a course that you would study for 18 months approximately, and to pass you would need to complete 16 modules and complete Assignments for each (there are no examinations).
Actual duration / completion time will depend on your personal circumstances, how effectively, consistently, you study, research, complete the assignments, which speed up or slow down progress!
Regarding actual study hours per week, this depends on you and your domestic and personal circumstances, but you would need to commit between 6 to 10 hours weekly on average, that’s two evenings or one evening and half a day at the weekend and if you have family that might mean studying late or very early!
However, much of the “study” will be reading, researching articles, reports, case studies, etc on the internet, and writing the assignments. It will also be of great help if you have support in the workplace from your line manager and access to specialists that you can talk with occasionally.
Progression Opportunities
All UK universities will accept you on to the 3rd year of a first Bachelor degree course – in a compatible subject degree eg. Business or Management. However, you also have the option as a mature student to move on to a Postgraduate Diploma course, and then, with some additional work experience move on to a Masters.
We can offer you postgraduate diploma options, as can many providers. For the degree top-up option, there are many universities and business schools offering this by distance learning, and you can also find some that offer it by part-time classroom study.
Assessed Assignments
All assessment is through assignment work. From your organisation’s point of view, the assignments can be valuable “mini-consultancy projects” in almost all the assignments you can include at least some analysis or observation of activity in your own organisation though it is, as you will appreciate, very important that you look at other, different, organisations and business sectors (important for you personally, but also good for your employer as you will have a broader understanding of business and management approaches, and will be able to compare your own organisation’s approaches with others – in effect, benchmarking, albeit in a low-profile way).
Personal Tutor Support
We give high levels of support, responding to emails in the evenings and weekends (we usually manage to respond within 2 working days occasionally longer due to being on business, but often much faster). Your tutor will provide you with hints, tips, advice, guidance, website links, and will be happy to look at, comment on, assess – outlines and nearly finished versions of your Assignments.
